The young murdered police officer, Simon B., left two young children and a wife behind in a case that has once again shocked Germany. Now, more details are emerging about the suspect, an 18-year-old German-Turk named Ahmet G., whose family has been in Germany for approximately 30 years.
Ahmet G. is accused of conducting a robbery, armed with a kitchen knife, at a gas station in Völklingen last week on Thursday. During an ensuing police pursuit, police say he struggled with 34-year-old Simon B., managed to grab Simon B.’s service weapon, and fired six shots into his body, killing the officer.
The autopsy of the officer reveals he suffered injuries to his head and torso and died from massive blood loss. The public prosecutor stated that the German-Turkish man continued shooting the officer even after he lay on the ground.
Another officer was apparently shot and only survived thanks to his protective vest.
German outlet Nius reports that Ahmat G.’s family is known for speaking very little German and had gambling debts due to the father’s gambling addiction.
Ahmat G. graduated from secondary school in 2023, but an acquaintance claimed he suffered from depression and was receiving treatment.
Bild also reported that his family lived in Germany for 30 years, and even until this day, the father barely speaks German. The family survives from odd jobs, and the father is addicted to gambling to the point that he has gambled away the family’s money.
There are also reportedly frequent arguments at the family home.
“I saw Ahmet only a few days before the crime. He seemed depressed. Apparently, there was another row at home because his father had gambled away the money again,” said a friend of the family.
Some social media users, such as popular German commentator Tim Kellner, are already pointing to the media building up a sob story around the perpetrator.
“The 17-year-old Turk Ahmet G. murders police officer and family man Simon B. And immediately the victim-perpetrator reversal begins. ‘Depression,’ ‘family problems,’ gambling-addicted father (in Germany for 30 years, speaks hardly any German) The murderer probably just wanted to get money for the family… Enough!” he wrote on X.
There is speculation that Ahmat G. committed the gas station robbery, which only netted him a few hundred euros, before he was arrested.
Notably, for those without any money in Germany, even those who have lost money gambling, there is still free food and free social assistance. Nobody starves on the street. There are also numerous charities, and Muslims can even benefit from Christian charities.
Ahmat G. is also hospitalized
It still remains unclear how the suspect obtained the officer’s pistol during the struggle.
New information also revealed that Ahmat G. remains hospitalized and suffered life-threatening injuries during the shootout.
He has been charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Notably, poor integration from the Turkish community is commonplace in Germany, despite this community having spent decades in the country in many cases. Despite numerous individual success stories, Remix News detailed in a long-form piece the various ways the Turkish community has failed to integrate as a whole.
In response to the murder of the police officer, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) has stated that “this tragedy shows once again” that “our police face life-threatening danger every day, the state fails to guarantee law and order,” and that “dual citizenship and failed policies have created enormous security risks.”
Notably, due to the suspect having dual citizenship, the murders will be counted as having been conducted by a German, as that is how the law operates in the country.
Yet another poll has found the AfD to be the top party in Germany, with an RTL/ntv poll putting the party at 26 percent.
In response to the AfD’s soaring popularity, many of the top left-wing parties, and even members of the “moderate” Christian Democrats (CDU), are calling for a party ban against the AfD.
