Ukraine strikes back, peace talks stall, and Musk steps up

Ukraine has attacked the energy infrastructure of the neighboring Russian Bryansk region with HIMARS rocket launchers and drones.

The Russian Defense Ministry reported that air defense forces shot down 38 Ukrainian drones overnight over the Bryansk, Belgorod and Lipetsk regions, as well as over the Black Sea.

According to Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of the Belgorod region, Ukrainians fired several missiles at the regional center, Belgorod, at dawn on Friday, causing serious damage.

“I cannot say good evening, unfortunately, my dear friends. The enemy has shelled the civilian city of Belgorod. Everyone knows we have no military targets. There has been serious damage. I have been out to look around,” Gladkov said in a video message he posted to Telegram, cited by Reuters.

Last month, Ukrainian defense forces also carried out several successful strikes on the Kapustin Yar missile test site in Russia, one of Russia’s most important missile and weapons testing centers, militarnyi.com reported.

The Kyiv Independent, Ukrainian drones attacked an electrical substation in the village of Dragunskoye, Belgorod region.

Rockets were later seen heading towards the Belgorod Thermal Power Plant, followed by widespread power, heating, and water outages reported from several parts of the region.

Elon Musk’s decision to block Starlink services in use by Russian forces has reportedly resulted in chaos on the front for the Russian military.

In addition, more aid is on the way. After meeting in Kyiv with Zelensky, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has also announced at a joint press conference that if needed, Poland will hand Ukraine its MiG-29 fighter jets. Tusk additionally said that a $56 million aid package is on its way to the wartorn country.

Meanwhile, nothing much was achieved at the latest U.S. brokered peace talks in Abu Dhabi, although 314 prisoners of war will be exchanged.
