Residents in western Ukraine have physically intervened to stop a recruitment center vehicle from transporting a man earmarked for military service, in an incident that highlights growing resistance to mobilization across the country.
The confrontation took place near the village of Ozera in the Volyn region. According to the regional recruiting and auxiliary command, a convoy of around seven civilian cars pursued a minibus operated by the territorial recruitment center. The pursuing vehicles began blocking the road and created a dangerous situation, forcing the minibus into a roadside ditch — as reported by the Ukrainian news portal Strana.ua. It is important to note that the publication is often considered to have a pro-Russian stance.
According to the news outlet, the locals then broke a window of the service vehicle and pulled the man free before he could be taken to the recruitment center.
The recruitment center confirmed that the freed individual is a resident of the Zaporizhzhia region. An investigation has been launched, and the identities of those involved in the interception are still being established.
The incident is not an isolated one. In the Lviv region, a mobilization minibus was previously fired upon, and in the city of Lviv itself, a woman discharged a weapon at a vehicle carrying police officers and military recruiters.
Taken together, these episodes reflect a broader and intensifying trend: In recent months, resistance to military mobilization across Ukraine has been steadily growing.
