Two Syrian nationals, 34-year-old Saad A. and 41-year-old Ahmed A., have now been convicted for gang raping a 27-year-old intoxicated woman after dragging her onto the hood of a vehicle and taking turns assaulting the woman.

At the opening of the trial, Saad A. caused a stir in the courtroom by declaring that he felt humiliated having a female interpreter translate for him, but now, a female judge has delivered his prison sentence to him and his accomplice of five years each.

Currently, there is still a third suspect who remains on the run. The trial began in February at the Düsseldorf Regional Court for a case that began in the early morning hours of June 29, 2025 within Düsseldorf’s historic old town district, according to Bild newspaper.

Prosecutors described the brutal assault, which involved the three Syrian men hoisting the heavily intoxicated woman onto the hood of a vehicle around 2:45 a.m. The woman was mostly unresponsive due to the large amount of alcohol she had consumed.

The court found that the rapists were fully aware of their actions and the condition the woman was in when they began taking turns raping her while two of them stood guard in shifts.

While the men were careful about not being caught, some passersby began alarmed when they heard the woman crying out. The court found that Ahmed A. approached these witnesses and told them they all knew the woman and it was fine.

He even told the witnesses: “She needs this.”

The witnesses did not believe his story and Ahmed A. became violent with them, charging them and threatening them with assault. The witnesses did not back down though and rushed the rapists, causing them to run away.

Once they examined the woman, they contacted emergency services and brought the woman to a police vehicle that was nearby.

On that same night, police detained Ahmed A. and Saad A. though the third suspect successfully escaped and remains on the run.

Forensic teams later matched DNA evidence recovered from the victim’s body directly to the accused.
