Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the launch of his own social network. The new app is to compete with large US digital companies and face down their tyranny, Trump said. The network should start operating in November and should be called Truth Social.
Trump’s Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) is due to launch the social network sometime next month for the first users. The rest of those interested will be able to join in 2022.
“We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American president has been silenced,” Trump said in a statement.
“Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech? Well, we will be soon!” he added.
Trump wants to create a platform that would compete with Twitter or Facebook. The foreign media liken Trump’s network to Parler or Gab, which, although quite small, also strive to maximize freedom of expression on their platforms.
Social networks began suspending Trump’s accounts in January after he wrote about the stolen elections. After the attack on the U.S. Capitol, Twitter permanently suspended the president’s account, while Facebook did so temporarily, at least until 2023.
