The Czech Olympic team has already recorded four athletes who tested positive for Covid-19. Still ohers are heading for tests. In total, the infections were confirmed among six members of the Czech expedition.
The latest person to test positive for Covid-19 was cyclist Michal Schlegel.
“His positive antigen test was also confirmed by an analysis of a PCR test in the Izu cycling village. Now, Schlegel is back in the hotel for road cyclists in isolation,” said Tibor Alföldi, Director of Communications of the Czech Olympic Committee.
Tests have previously revealed Covid-19 infection in beach volleyball player Ondřej Perušič and table tennis player Pavel Širuček, as well as beach volleyball player Markéta Nausch. Her husband and coach, Simon Nausch, tested positive earlier. All the infected athletes traveled to Japan on a charter flight on July 16. The first member of the expedition who tested positive was orthopedist Vlastimil Voráček. He was also on the flight and did not get vaccinated against Covid-19.
The Czech Olympic Committee has already started investigating the circumstances of the flight. It also said that it is taking the situation very seriously and is addressing the matter with the organizers of the Olympic Games.
