The summit to determine the European Union’s budget for the next years ended in failure over the weekend, prompting Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki to blame a “group of misers” who do not want to contribute to the budget while at the same time “being full of platitudes about European unity”.
Seventeen countries, including Poland, have allied in a group called the “Friends of Cohesion” which is opposed to cuts to the EU budget. These cuts were proposed by Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavian states.
