On Wednesday, Europol, together with the German police, broke up an organized gang smuggling migrants from Turkey to Germany via the Balkan route.
The gang reportedly managed to smuggle about 80 people from the Middle East, mainly from Egypt, Syria, and Turkey, into the EU. Its members transported migrants in trucks that passed to Germany via Czechia or Poland.
Refugees paid between €3,500 and €12,000 for the journey, which often took place in life-threatening conditions.
Europol and the German police arrested three people as well as carried out six house searches in several places in Germany.
