Fidesz MEP: If the ‘United States of Europe’ existed, Brussels would’ve already flooded Hungary with migrants

The so-called Spinelli Group, an initiative of leftist and green MEPs for the further federalization of the European Union, is pursuing a ‘dangerous nightmare’ and Hungary’s left is assisting them, Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch told Magyar Hírlap in an interview.

The Spinelli Group of the European Parliament, which has 74 members from various parties, includes three members of Hungary’s liberal party, the Democratic Coalition — Klára Dobrev (wife of former Socialts Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány), Attila Ara-Kovács and Sándor Rónai — and the Socialists István Ujhelyi and Márton Gyöngyösi. It has recently launched an appeal for wider federalization of the EU at a time when there is a series of conferences underway regarding the future of the Union.

“If there is anything that is life-threatening for everyone in the most literal sense, for both left and right Hungarians, it is the nightmare of federal European state that these characters are chasing, with Madam Gyurcsány among them,” Deutsch said.

He said that if Europeans lived in a United States of Europe, “we Hungarians could not have defended ourselves against many hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants because it would have been decided in Brussels, the imperial center, that they should be admitted.”

The situation would be similar to tax policy, as Brussels has long decried tax competition based on economic performance, which is an important element of a successful Hungarian economic policy. Higher taxes would be imposed to erode the competitiveness of Central European countries. Hungarian family policy would also fall victim to the United States of Europe, Deutsch said. He said that in Brussels, they are not thinking about encouraging childbirth, but about settling migrants across the continent.

He also drew attention to the fact that 2 million people in Hungary would not have been vaccinated against the coronavirus if Hungary had been buried under the failed vaccine procurement of the ‘United States of Europe’. According to Deutsch, centralization would mean much less money for Hungary in the name of the Union, for example, €3.5 billion less in regional development resources.

“Mrs. Gyurcsány wants a world where our affairs are not decided by the parliament and government elected by the Hungarians, but by an imperial center in Brussels. This also threatens the safety, health and existence of the Hungarian people, including the voters of the Democratic Coalition he represents,” the MEP warned.

According to Deutsch, it would be a mistake to think that Klára Dobrev is merely uninformed.

“She acts very consciously, Mrs. Gyurcsány is an internationalist, she loves all decisions that weaken our national identity and Hungarian interest, and does not support those that strengthen national commitment,” he said.

In connection with the EU’s social summit in Porto today, with the Hungarian delegation led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, he said that Hungary had already met the objectives of the social pillar, which proves the success of the Hungarian model. He stressed that instead of what he described as “fever dreams”, a successful nation-state model should be pursued.

“This is a good practice that we are happy to recommend to all with modesty how to build a successful, work-based and family-friendly society and become one of the best performing countries in Europe,” he said.
