A supervisor of the Albanian national football team is accused of raping an 18-year-old hotel dishwasher during the team’s European Championship game in the hotel of the Kaiserau sports school.
The attack reportedly happened on June 23, with the entire Albanian team leaving the country after their defeat 0:1 to Spain. The alleged rapist also reportedly left with the team members.
The woman told police detectives in the city of Unna in North Rhine-Westphalia that the Albanian team staff member forced her into a kitchen, started kissing her against her will, and then proceeded to sexually abuse her.
There are now questions about why the man was allowed to leave the country despite the woman coming forward to the police before he departed.
A police spokeswoman told Bild newspaper: “As there is no strong suspicion of a crime so far, an application for an arrest warrant has not been made.”
It is unclear if the police have any evidence that contradicts the woman’s story, but the authorities are continuing to investigate. The Albanian Football Association has suspended him in response to the incident.
