While money is being withheld from Hungary by EU leaders, opposition leader Péter Magyar (Tisza) appears and campaigns in the very places, be it hospitals or railway lines, whose renovation and modernization are delayed due to the withholding of these EU funds, writes Magyar Nemzet.
Brussels knows exactly what projects Hungary needs its withheld funds for, as they keep a precise list of all planned developments, the portal says.
Outrage from the Fidesz camp has continued in the wake of Kinga Kollár, a Tisza Party MEP, saying how “effective” Brussels has been in helping Tisza’s electoral chances by way of keeping needed money from projects that would have improved the lives of Hungarians.
Although much has been said about pending hospital renovations, Kollar also lashed out about Hungary’s slow trains and how its railway lines are in need of a major upgrade.
“I have to say that this was very effective, approximately €21 billion of subsidies to Hungary were suspended, of which 1 billion have already been lost by the Hungarians. And this had a very serious impact on the Hungarian state. It cannot invest in public services. (…) I mean, to give an example, 50 hospitals could have been renovated from the RRF program, which did not happen,” she said.
“If we look at the Hungarian railway lines, it is a tragedy. On some lines, the speed of the trains is lower than 150-170 years ago,” the Tisza MEP added.
Péter Magyar has spent a lot of time rallying supporters based on Hungary’s failing hospitals. However, the Tisza leader has also shown up next to trains, criticizing slow travel times, among other things. And yet, this, again, is due to Hungary not receiving the EU funds it is due, partially as a result of politicians like Magyar making sure Hungary never gets them.
It is the political aim that many are so shocked at. As Kollar said in her recent speech in the European Parliament: “And because of this (the degradation of Hungarian living conditions- ed. note), I… I… I am very positive about the ’26 elections.”
