SK IE Technology has announced that through the latest investment, the entire facility located in the Polish city of Dąbrowa Górnicza will help the company build its largest factory in the world. The new factories will increase the South Korean company’s engagement in Poland to up to €1.3 billion.
The SK group has been operating in Poland since 2018. In June 2018, the investor SK Innovation purchased a plot to construct its first facility in Dąbrowa Górnicza worth close to €322 million. In November 2020, SK IE Technology, a new division detached from SK Innovation, announced a second wave of investments and the doubling of earlier expenditures.
SK located its facilities in the Katowice Special Economic Zone (KSSE), which Dąbrowa Górnicza is a part of.
This Tuesday, KSSE informed that SK IE Technology has announced the construction of its third and fourth lithium-ion battery separator factories, which will further develop the facility complex in the area. The South Korean company plans to initiate the construction of the new facilities in the third quarter of 2021. Production in the factories is to start in 2023. The estimated annual production capability of the factories is to be 860 million square meters of separators – 430 million for each new facility.
The Polish minister of development, labor and technology, Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin pointed out that the newest stage of SK IE Technology’s development confirms the companies constant global expansion.
“I am pleased that today we can confirm that the company connects its development plans with our country and has once again bet on Poland. The company’s decision confirms that Poland is an attractive place to locate capital,” he said in a statement released by the KSSE.
Gowin emphasized that the investment is important due to the fact that electro-mobility is a global trend and Poland has become a key link in this fast-growing business. He noted that SK IE Technology was the first company in Korea and third in the world to develop key solutions to produce car batteries.
“Owing to the usage of advanced technologies, the company offers clients all around the world modern and non-standard solutions. And we open our doors very widely to investors who will strengthen Poland’s economic ecosystem through advanced technologies of the highest quality,” the deputy prime minister added.
