"Poland is a proud, responsible and trustworthy partner of the USA, and Musk is just learning politics"

“Musk should apologize to Minister Sikorski, and thus to Poland,” said Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia at a press conference, according to Do Rzeczy.

Hołownia was responding to Elon Musk, X CEO and advisor to U.S. President Trump, after he called Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski a “small man” and told him to “be quiet” for bringing up the fact that Poland is paying for the Starlink satellites in use by Ukraine, to the tune of some $50 million a year. He also noted that if need be, Poland will look for other suppliers.

“Minister Sikorski is a member of the Polish government, and the Republic of Poland is a proud, responsible and trustworthy partner of the USA. No one has the right to insult Polish ministers in this way. We are not anyone’s pushover – we are the Republic of Poland. Musk is just learning politics and may not be aware that different rules apply here,” Hołownia added.

Some have said that Sikorski misrepresented Musk’s original message indicating a clear demand for peace and stating “Their entire front line would collapse if I turned it off” as a threat that he would be cutting off the service. Others have said no matter the misunderstanding, Musk’s tone and choice of words were unseemly for a representative of the U.S. government on the world stage.

“Minister Sikorski wrote the truth, he gave the facts. I am proud that we have such a minister of foreign affairs. He did not write in a confrontational tone, but rather in an exchange of information. He presented facts about which there is no doubt,” Hołownia stated.

“I think Musk should apologize to the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs for what he wrote, because Poland is a proud country and will not allow anyone, regardless of how many billions they have in their account, to humiliate themselves, their government, or to speak to anyone who is a representative of the Republic of Poland in such a way as to some spunky guy they met in strange circumstances,” said the Speaker of the Sejm.

Poland has in no way indicated it will be looking to support efforts to discontinue the war in Ukraine. President Duda has even come out in favor of French President Macron’s proposal last week that to extend his country’s nuclear weapons umbrella to counter any threat from Russia, especially to cover neighboring countries such as Poland.
