In an interview for Fox News with Tucker Carlson, President Andrzej Duda spoke about the current migration crisis and Polish pro-family policies.
Duda noted that in 2015, Poland rejected the migrant quota system proposed by EU countries such as Germany, which would involve every member state being forced to accept a certain number of migrants.
“We gave a very clear answer to that. Whoever wants to come to Poland, whoever’s looking for help or assistance, especially refugees who are looking for shelter because they are threatened by war or persecuted in their own countries — if they want to come to Poland, we want them to stay in Poland, to live in Poland,” he said.
The president added, however, that the Polish government had not agreed to the forcible transfer of migrants to Poland.
President of Poland, Andrzej Duda:
I’m a Christian. I’m a practicing Christian. I pray. I’m not ashamed of that whatsoever, and to me the value of family is priceless. I do support families. I’m pro-life. I defend life. I believe that life is sacred. I believe it should be guarded.
Duda also pointed out that Poland did not accept holding the migrants in prisons and would not force anyone who did not want to be in the country to stay against their will.
Duda defined his own views as ‘rather conservative’ and emphasized the importance of faith and family in his personal life.
“I’m a Christian. I’m a practicing Christian. I pray. I’m not ashamed of that whatsoever, and to me the value of family is priceless. I do support families. I’m pro-life. I defend life. I believe that life is sacred. I believe it should be guarded,” he said.
Duda emphasized his consistent support for “resolute and vast pro-family action” and reminded them that the Polish Constitution defined marriage as a union of a man and woman that was protected by the government in a special way.
The president stressed that offering financial support to families by a government was also crucial both from a political point of view and a personal one. As an example, he gave the revolutionary “500+” child benefit program, which was one of both his and Law and Justice’s (PiS) election promises in 2015.
He noted that the program was so successful that not many could imagine a Poland without it today. It was later expanded to also include additional funding for school supplies.
“Families have to be supported as strong as they can because family is the foundation of every nation. Everything is based on family,” Duda declared.
