Russia is making it a priority to deploy the new Kh-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic missile systems is to be the West of the country in the Kalingrad oblast, the Russian paper Izvestia reported. The paper’s sources did not specify exactly when this deployment will take place, but reported that the new Kinzhals will be added to military units in accordance with their production rate.
Previously, only Southern Military District Russian forces were equipped with Kinzhal missiles. In early 2021, representatives of Russian armed forces spoke of plans to deploy the missiles in the Krasnoyarsk Krai in Siberia. The Armed Forces General Staff also informed of conducting military exercises with the use of Kinzhals in the Arctic. The missiles are to be used by the Northern Fleet in the future.
