The Alternative for Germany (AfD), often portrayed as bigoted and anti-LGBT by left-wing media, has quite a few fans in the gay community. In fact, according to the largest gay dating app in Europe, it is the most popular party in Germany by a wide margin.

The survey on the Romeo app found that 27.9 percent of gay men support the AfD, with the poll conducted between Jan. 24 and Feb. 2, involving 60,560 users.

The Greens were behind the AfD in second place by nearly 10 points, scoring 19.9 percent of the vote. The CDU was in third with 17.6 percent and the SPD with 12.5 percent. The Left Party scored 6.5 percent, BSW 4.5 percent, and the FDP had 3.6 percent.

The AfD routinely speaks out against LGBT symbolism and LGBT education in schools, however, this does not appear to dissuade many gay men.

For one, the party’s head is a lesbian woman, Alice Weidel, who rejects a politicized form of LGBT. Instead, just like straight people, many gay and lesbians do not feel their sexuality is a political movement.

In addition, there are many LGBT people who are not at all happy with the state of mass immigration, which has brought numerous people from foreign lands who take a violent view of LGBT, including Middle Easterners and Africans.

Among young gay men, the AfD is the most popular choice by an even larger margin. The 18 to 24-year-old group would vote for the AfD at a rate of 34.7 percent. Among 25 to 39 year olds, the rate is 32.3 percent. Older gay men, those 60 and over, would only vote for the AfD at a rate of 19.8 percent, while the CDU comes out ahead.

In many ways, this reflects trends in the overall population. In elections in Brandenburg, for instance, those below 50 voted for the AfD at far higher rates than older 60+ voters, as Remix News previously reported on X.
