Over 100 migrants attacked Poland’s border guards with stones and burning tree branches while attempting an illegal crossing of the Polish-Belarusian border.
Poland’s Border Guard authority published a video documenting the attack on X, with the migrants reportedly from Syria, India and Iran.
The surveillance camera recordings show border guards at the border wall standing in groups when the migrants launched their assault by hurling stones and burning branches over and through the barrier. No injuries were reported after the attack, according to Polish news outlet Interia.
This is yet another incident in a long line of attempts to intimidate Polish border guards, who have regularly been attacked with stones and other objects. Recently, the men and women defending the Polish border were defamed in the controversial movie “Green Border,” directed by Agnieszka Holland, with the film depicting them as brutal and uncaring.
In 2023, so far, there have been around 22,000 attempts at making illegal border crossings on the Polish-Belarusian frontier. In both March and April, there were 2,500 such attempts. That figure rose to 3,000 in May and also June, and to 4,000 in July. In August, the numbers fell to below 3,000 and in September, they fell to just over 1,000.
