Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that he approved a 40-day “influence operation” against Russia, to be carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). According to the Ukrainian president, the aim of the initiative is to help bring the war to an end, though the specific details have not yet been made public.

Zelensky reported on Telegram that he had consulted with the head of the SBU, who briefed him on a so-called long- and medium-range “sanctions plan” as well as the achievements of the Alpha special operations center on the front. The president emphasized that the service has been particularly effective in defending Ukraine’s front-line positions through the widespread use of drones.

The announcement came with no further explanation of what the 40-day operation actually involves, leaving it unclear whether it constitutes a military, intelligence, or information operation.

In recent months, the SBU has taken an increasingly active role in drone strikes against Russian territory — attacks that have become one of the defining features of the war.

Meanwhile, Russia’s fuel crisis continues to deepen. As a result of oil refineries damaged by Ukrainian strikes, restrictions on gasoline sales have already been introduced in more than 20 regions, with attacks on refinery infrastructure becoming a regular occurrence in recent months.

For now, the details of the “40-day influence operation” remain unknown, raising questions about what effect the new Ukrainian strategy may have on the further course of the war.
