There has been a tremendous intellectual and academic drive going on for several decades that has aimed to prove that the West is no longer needed for anything. The goal of these activists is to drown the West in a globalized world and fill its citizens with guilt for the sins of its own past.
Given the current protests and riots in America, on one hand we can see the result of unresolved, real social inequalities stemming from racism. On the other hand, we can see the fruits of determined ideological efforts enacted with the goal to deconstruct the very idea of the West.
The toppling of statues is a symbolic act of overthrowing the West and questioning its historic victory in terms of ideas and progress.
This is all taking place while we are seeing the decomposition of the basic cornerstones which hold the West in its victorious post-Cold War position.
