There is ongoing pressure on the Polish border with Belarus as the migration crisis continues. Every day, hundreds of migrants, most of them with Russian visas in their passports, try to force their way past the barrier at the Polish-Belarusian border.
The Polish Border Guard reported that on Sunday, 108 citizens of Pakistan, India and Algeria attempted to cross from Belarus to Poland. On Saturday, there were 146 migrants counted by the Polish Border Guard, including Indians, Tajiks, and Eritreans.
The Border Guard detained two Ukrainians who were transporting a total of 10 individuals from Somalia and Syria. The drivers were apprehended within the area protected by border guards at the Narewka post.
Since the beginning of 2023, officers from the Podlaskie Border Guard Division have detained over 350 individuals involved in organizing illegal crossings of the Polish-Belarusian border.
Since the beginning of the year, the Border Guard has documented over 12,000 attempts of illegal border crossings from Belarus to Poland. According to previously released data by the Border Guard, there were approximately 2,500 attempts in both March and April and around 3,000 attempts in May. In June alone, over 1,300 individuals have been recorded trying to cross into Poland.
The complete electronic barrier system, equipped with cameras and sensors, is now fully operational along the 206-kilometer Polish-Belarusian border. The electronic barrier complements the 186-kilometer steel barrier constructed in 2022, which stands at a height of 5.5 meters.
All road border crossings with Belarus in the Podlaskie region are currently closed until further notice. However, railway crossings in Kuźnica and Siemianówka remain open.
