Heartwarming footage of a herd of bison crossing a road in Poland has gone viral on social media.
The animals decided to cross to the other side of the road, but first made sure that there were no cars approaching from either side.
The video of the bison appeared on Sunday on the Facebook group of the magazine “Magiczne Podlasie,” but it is not clear exactly where or when the recording was made. The footage shows a herd of bison approaching the road. The first one looks around and only decides to start crossing when it sees that cars on both sides have stopped.
In the recording, about 100 animals can be counted. “Such a large herd only lives in the Knyszyn Forest, near the city of Białystok,” wrote one of the commentators.
Internet users also noticed that the herd crossed the road very efficiently. In the film, some of the bison start running, and within a minute and a half, the entire herd is already on the other side of the road.
This is not the first time a herd of bison has been recorded crossing the road, and these experienced animals are very careful not to get hit by oncoming vehicles.
The number of bison in the Knyszyn Forest continues to grow. At the end of January, the Krynki Forest District reported a population of 298 bison in the area. Last year, there were about 212.
European bison are under strict protection in Poland. According to the Pedigree Book of Bison, the total species count at the end of 2020 was 2,316.
