Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski during his speech to the Atlantic Council in Washington on February 26 had something very personal to say.
“Even though I am Poland’s foreign minister, my wife, as many of you know, is American. But I suspect most of you are not aware that our son is an American soldier,” revealed Sikorski.
This revelation was made to emphasize the closeness of the ties between the two countries. “My heart and my loyalty is to Poland, but it is in my interests for America to be a prosperous and confident country which remains loyal to its allies,” he said.
After his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, the Polish foreign minister was pressed by a reporter to provide more information on where exactly Sirkoski’s son was serving. However, he cut that discussion short and said, “I think that these are details which do not have to be revealed. I’m going to regret that I said anything in a moment.”
According to “Komputer Świat” the Sikorski son in question is Tadeusz Sikorski who after fraduating from the John Hopkins Krieger School of Arts & Sciences became a junior officer in the Cyber Corps of the US army, therefore he is not engaged in a combat role. Sikorski and his American wife, journalist Anne Applebaum, have two sons, Alexander and Tadeusz. The family resides in Poland in a manor close to the city of Bydgoszcz.
Sikorski, during his visit to the U.S., spoke about his clash with the Russian ambassador at the UN Security Council. The way Poland’s foreign minister countered Russia’s arguments was widely praised by commentators. During the meeting with Blinken, the U.S. secretary of state thanked Sikorski for that speech.
