German group Alternative Help Association (AHA) says rather than supporting migrants, they should be helped to solve the causes of migration at its roots.
AHA Europe was established by patriots who take into account European interests by helping migrants at home instead of bringing them to Europe, AHA press secretary Nils Altmieks told Magyar Hírlap in an interview.
“Mass migration, instead of solving the problems, will only create new ones,” Altmieks said
First of all, it is irresponsible to let in millions of people without thoroughly verifying their identities as terrorists will inevitably take advantage of such a situation.
Besides the terrorists, thousands are seeping into Europe bringing utopic illusions about what they can expect here. In the end they will become frustrated by the lack of actual opportunities. This in turn triggers criminality, which creates disdain against them and real racism.
Secondly, this has catastrophic result for their home countries. People who by local standards are well-educated, often have moderate political and religious views will leave their country in disproportionately high numbers. The middle classes will be the first to leave. This only amplifies the problems of these countries as it will reduce both the workforce and the number of consumers. Who will then rebuild these countries – both in the physical and moral sense – if not them?
Some Western help – such as the one provided by the U.N. High Commission for Refugees – does reach its intended target and some smaller initiatives are also helpful, but typically assistance is very rudimentary, only accessible in hotspots or ideologically tainted.
The other issue is that of financial support. Politicians will say that the roots of migration should be addressed, but for example in the Syrian conflict – which is actually the most critical – it is impossible to determine how much money was spent on what projects.
The German Foreign Ministry says the government spent two billion euros in the region and 20 billion euros on the migration crisis in Germany but have only actually seen projects in the millions of euros range.
The most important thing is to eradicate the causes of migration, mainly poverty and instability. If we really want to help people there, our assistance should be geared towards helping them help themselves. This is the basic principle of AHA. In Syria, for example, reconstruction and stability can only be achieved by involving the country’s government.
In case someone has a legitimate reason to come to Europe, we support their cause. But in most cases they only come here seeking a better life.
