Seeming to have come right out of a science fiction movie, capsule hotels are two rows of “capsules’ placed on top of one another. Hotels of this style usually offer rooms of 2x1x1 meters. Inside, there is usually only a mattress, but some capsules offer a TV or gaming console.
Capsule hotels are attractive due to their low prices but are also useful in emergencies. They are often used by the unemployed, who are looking for work outside of their area of residence. In Japan, they are used by drunk men who are too scared of coming home to face the repercussions from their families.
The first capsule hotel was designed by Kish Kurosawa in Osaka, Japan. They are usually located close to tourist and business sites and what they lack in luxury, they make up for with localisation and utility.
