The father of a 17-year-old girl who was murdered by an illegal migrant had the rare opportunity to directly confront German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on public television. The father, Michael Kyrath, is widely seen as putting a face to many of the victims of migrant violence during his appearance on “Direkt Spezial” on the private network RTL.

“Mr. Scholz, we have between 24 and 32 knife attacks in Germany every day. Many of them end fatally. And every day that we continue to discuss this, people die, children die. There are parents standing at the grave or coffin of their children, stroking their child’s hand for the last time in their lives, and this hand is ice-cold. You don’t have children, you can’t imagine it.

Kyrath’s daughter, Ann-Marie Kyrath, was murdered in January 2023, along with her boyfriend 19-year-old Danny, by a known criminal Palestinian migrant, who had been convicted of serious crimes. He stabbed Ann-Marie and Danny a total of 38 times, and wounded eight others, on a regional train on its way to Hamburg. He is currently sentenced to life in prison.

It marked the first time Scholz ever sat down with the family member of a victim of his — and many other politicians’ — open borders policies.

“This is not about humans. It’s about people. In our case, these people were called Ann-Marie and Danny. It’s not people —  just any people. The second aspect of the whole thing is, of course, that we have been discussing it for years. I’ve been hearing for years that we need to talk about it, we need to discuss it, we need to plan. We can’t get any further by talking. It’s time for us to slowly start taking action. And start acting urgently,” said Ann-Marie’s father.

Kyrath delivered emotionally raw and moving testimony directly to Scholz’s face, but managed to stay calm and composed. He challenged why such people are even in the country.

“And it’s not about deporting people, it’s about why are they even allowed into the country at all?” he asked.

Also during the interview, Kyrath confronted Scholz over his government funding a website where asylum seekers can find information to avoid deportation, which is available in nine different languages. The site is called “Handbook Germany” and contains a wealth of information about legal loopholes. Notably, Kyrath’s own daughter was murdered by a migrant who was supposed to have been deported but never was, despite previous rape convictions.

“First of all, I’ve heard this story too,” said Scholz, regarding the “Handbook Germany” website. He claimed it was a “decision made a long time ago to support an association that passes on this information.” He had been told “that the support has long since been stopped.”

However, this was an outright falsehood. In fact, the site is still up and the organization still receives funding from the federal government, as reported by NZZ.

The paper wrote: “But the opposite is true: The site is active, everything is freely accessible, and the creators of the website continue to receive money from the state. Either Scholz is lying or he is poorly informed. In any case, there can be no talk that support for it was ended.”

It further writes that taxpayers are funding the “Handbook Germany: Together” project this year with €300,000:

“The money comes from the Federal Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration. A further €22,000 comes from the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. The portal was also financed with tax money in previous years. The total funding for the period 2023 to 2025 is almost €10 million, with 90 percent of this coming from the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund.”
