Although Poland is responsible for the most CO2 emissions when it comes to coal, as it boasts the largest share of coal in Europe’s energy mix, on a per capita basis, its emissions data is a bit better, reports Business Insider.
All in all, Poland ranks fourth in Europe in terms of greenhouse gas production, while it ranks sixth in terms of per capita emissions.
In 2023, including households, Poland produced 377 million tons of greenhouse gases, a drop of 25.6 million tons, or 6.3 percent year-over-year
Only Germany made larger nominal cuts in Europe, where emissions fell by 74.1 million tons, or a whopping 9.3 percent, to 720.4 million. Percentage-wise, greenhouse gas production was cut faster than Poland by Bulgaria (-23% y/y) , Estonia (-17.6%), Finland (-10.2%), the Czech Republic and Greece (both -8.2%), Hungary (-6.4%) and the Netherlands (-6.4%).
Smaller countries, meanwhile, increased their emissions: Iceland (+9.3% y/y), Cyprus (1.6%) and Latvia (+0.7%).
In terms of greenhouse gas production, Poland ranks fourth in the EU, behind Germany (720 million tons of CO2 equivalent), France (403 million) and Italy (399 million).
