If the elections were held this Sunday, Rafał Trzaskowski would be the undisputed winner of the first round of Poland’s presidential election, according to the latest poll
In a survey conducted by the Pollster Research Institute on Jan. 17-18 for the daily Super Express, the candidate for the ruling Civic Coalition (KO), Rafał Trzaskowski, received 37 percent support.
Second place went to Law & Justice’s (PiS) Karol Nawrocki, with 27 percent, meaning a gap of 10 points between the KO and PiS candidates.
“The candidate supported by PiS is mainly winning votes from the party’s traditional electorate, but his result shows that he may have difficulty attracting undecided voters,” according to Super Express.
In third place is Sławomir Mentzen with 14 percent of the votes. “His support suggests that Confederation is effectively mobilizing its young electorate, which makes Mentzen an important player in this campaign,” the portal writes.
Szymon Hołownia (Third Way), who received 11 percent support, is losing out, while the remaining politicians did much worse. Magdalena Biejat (New Left), and Grzegorz Braun (Confederation of the Polish Crown) have 3 percent support; Adrian Zandberg (Together) can count on 2 percent; and Marek Woch (Nonpartisan Local Government Officials), Marek Jakubiak (Free Republicans), and Piotr Szumlewicz (Union Alternative) received 1 percent each.
The survey was conducted using the CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) method on a sample of 1,004 adult Poles. The sample structure was representative of Polish citizens aged 18+, and the maximum estimation error was approximately 3 percent.
The first round of Poland’s presidential election is set to take place on May 18.
