Although Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski ranks first in the latest IBRiS trust ranking in January, the trend is not in his favor, reports the Do Rzeczy news portal. Trzaskowski, also the Civic Coalition’s (KO) candidate for the president of Poland, is trusted by 41.2% of respondents (19.6% definitely trust, 21.6% rather trust), a drop of 4.5 points from the December survey.

Trzaskowski is viewed negatively by 50.7% of respondents (+2 points), while he is viewed in a neutral light by 8.1% (+2.7 points).

“This is an alarm signal for the politician, because the last time the number of negative responses to him exceeded 50% was in June 2023,” the Onet news portal, which commissions the survey, pointed out.

Andrzej Duda remains in second place with a trust score of 41% (20.7% definitely trust him, 20.3% rather trust him), 0.2 points less than in December. The president of Poland is not trusted by 49% of respondents (-5 points), and 10% are indifferent about him (+5.2 points).

The third in this ranking is the president of the Institute of National Remembrance, the presidential candidate supported by PiS, Karol Nawrocki. He is trusted by 38.5% of respondents (21.7% definitely trust him, 16.8% rather trust him), an increase of 5.3 points.

Nawrocki was viewed negatively by 45.3% of respondents (-1.7 points), while 10.8% were neutral (+3 points). Only 5.4% of respondents said “I don’t know” compared to 12% in December.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk came off the podium, with 38.3% of Poles trusting him (+1.8 points), 56.3% of respondents having a negative opinion of the head of government (+2.2 points), and 5.4% being indifferent to him (+4 points).

Onet drew attention to the growing popularity of the Confederation’s presidential candidate, Sławomir Mentzen, who achieved the best result since March 2024 (25.8% of respondents trust him, 50% do not trust him, 13.4% have a neutral attitude towards him, and 9.8% do not know him).

On the other hand, significant declines are noted by politicians of the Left: Krzysztof Gawkowski and Magdalena Biejat.

Grzegorz Braun makes his debut in the poll. The Crown politician, who announced his candidacy for president last week, enjoys the trust of 14.4% of respondents. 56.7% do not trust him.

Onet notes that the politicians that Poles distrust the most include members of the government: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz (56.6% negative responses) and Prime Minister Donald Tusk himself (56.3%).

The survey was conducted on Jan. 17-18, 2025, on a nationwide sample of 1,100 people using standardized computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI).
