A Colombian citizen has been arrested for fatally stabbing a Polish man during a brutal street fight involving both locals and foreigners in the town of Nowe, Świecie district.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning around 2:15 a.m., when police were alerted to a stabbing in the Nowe Market Square.

According to initial reports, a quarrel broke out between two groups of men — some Poles and some foreigners, including Colombians — inside a local venue before the confrontation escalated and spilled outside.

During the brawl, a 41-year-old Polish resident of Nowe was stabbed to death. Two other men, aged 32 and 34, sustained minor injuries.

Shortly after the incident, officers spotted a vehicle fleeing the scene at high speed. Despite being ordered to stop, the driver refused and led police on a chase through the Nowe commune. During the pursuit, the suspect attempted to ram a police car, causing a collision that disabled the police vehicle. Four men fled on foot but were quickly apprehended. All were found to be intoxicated and ranged in age from 21 to 45.

Meanwhile, another patrol located a suspect believed to be directly responsible for the stabbing at a hotel in Nowe. Officers arrested the 29-year-old Colombian national, who is now facing charges related to the fatal attack.

Police have detained a total of eleven people in connection with the fight, which is being investigated under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Świecie.

Both Poles and foreigners are among those held as investigators continue examining evidence and conducting forensic work at the scene.

Later on Sunday, dozens of Poles marched through the town to protest Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s liberal immigration policy, chanting, “All of Poland stands with us, get the refugees out!”

The murder follows an incident last month in which a Venezuelan migrant was arrested on suspicion of attempting to rape and slitting the throat of 24-year-old Klaudia K. in Toruń.

In a statement last week, the Toruń prosecutor’s office said the preliminary cause of death was a brain injury. She was stabbed at least a dozen times in the head, neck, and chest, and had defensive wounds on her hands.
