A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday morning on the A1 highway between Bucharest and Pitești. Two young people died after they threw themselves in front of a truck while hugging each other, news outlet Maszol reported.

According to the reporting, the two young people threw themselves into traffic because their parents did not want them to have a relationship.

The portal learned that the girl was 14 years old and from Giurgiu county, and the boy was 18 years old and lived in Buzău county.

Due to the young age of the girl, authorities were contacted about the relationship months ago.

Daniel Badea, the mayor of Crevedia Mare, the locality from which the minor child came, stated to Digi24 that the authorities were notified of this case “in May or June” by the police.

According to the mayor, following investigations, the Buzău IPJ found that the young man, an adult, had intimate relations with the girl, who, at the time, was 13 and a half years old.

“It was automatically reported and the IPJ was notified, as it was a rape, as it was a minor. We automatically started a social investigation report through which we monitored the entire situation and we did this weekly. We also talked to the young woman’s parents. They told me that the girl had taken a pregnancy test and was not pregnant,” said the mayor.

The young man had been charged with sex with a minor because of this relationship, which would have made it more difficult for him to continue seeing her.

Police believe they both took their lives.

The families of the young people are expected to identify the bodies on Wednesday.

The young people suffered such severe injuries that the ambulances arriving at the scene confirmed immediately that they were dead.

The driver was tested for drugs or alcohol, but the results were negative.

He recounted to the police that both victims were hugging each other when they flung themselves into his vehicle.
