A 15-year-old French girl was found bloody and dazed wandering the streets by police, only for them to discover she had just escaped from a basement where she had been severely tortured, including being slashed, burned, and assaulted, by four minors. The four suspects have been arrested, including three girls. Another adult individual was also taken into custody, according to the Lyon public prosecutor, who issued a press release on Wednesday.

According to a source close to the investigation, “their violence and cruelty were totally incomprehensible.”

The victim, who lives in a shelter in Annecy, was contacted by her ex-boyfriend, who, “under the pretext of getting back together,” met her in Oullins-Pierre-Bénite. He then reportedly took her to an apartment where three other girls were waiting, including the ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend.

The victim was led into a basement inside the apartment building, where one of the suspects stabbed her in her right thigh. Then, the suspects proceeded to slash the victim’s back and trace “X” shapes on her, as well as smiley faces and the number 69. The Liberation news outlet also reported that the victim received severe burns during the incident. The youths then sprayed her with a fire extinguisher and robbed the young girl’s phone.

According to police sources, the torture and assault lasted for hours and was filmed by one of the suspects.

Police quickly arrested “four minors,” including two 14-year-old girls, as well as a 17-year-old boy and another girl of an unspecified age. In addition, a 19-year-old adult was taken into custody, but it is unclear what role the adult played.

Two of the girls were arrested in the apartment where the victim was first left and placed into custody. They have been charged with kidnapping, extortion, robbery, torture, “intentional violence” and an “act of barbarity against a minor,” said Lyon prosecutor Thierry Dran.

The police reportedly recovered video of the torture from one of the suspects’ phones.

There is no information currently available about the nationality of the suspects, but none of them reportedly had a criminal history and the incident did not happen in a “troubled” neighborhood.
