A Tunisian man who was already sentenced for the brutal beating of an elderly pensioner in Varese, Italy, is now facing fresh charges after it emerged that he allegedly raped a woman twice just hours before the attack.

The 44-year-old, who has already been definitively sentenced to ten years and six months in prison for attempted murder of the elderly man, is accused of further acts during a night of violence dating back to Dec. 30, 2023.

According to prosecutors, the Tunisian attacked the 67-year-old pensioner on Corso Moro, who was left bleeding on the ground in the center of Varese. A street cleaner who witnessed the assault came to the elderly man’s aid, recalling: “I saw a man kick a grandpa who was already on the ground.”

The court determined the brutal beating was delivered without warning and was unprovoked. The elderly man was hospitalized with severe injuries. Using surveillance footage and traces of blood found on the attacker’s shoes, police were able to identify and arrest him, according to Il Giorno.

However, authorities are now pursuing charges related to a complaint filed by a female victim, who said she had met the man shortly beforehand at a bar and they went to her home together. She alleges that he then forced her into two sexual encounters over the course of the same night. The accused denies the allegations, which will now be weighed by the Tribunal.

The woman has joined the case as a civil party.

However, these are not the only cases where the 44-year-old Tunisian has been convicted. In recent days, the man was convicted in another case for resisting a public official over an earlier incident on Via Veratti, where he allegedly made serious threats against one of the officers involved in his deportation proceedings.
