Just before the Budapest Pride Parade is set to run on June 27, a man has been filmed tearing down LGBT Pride Flags from the famed Elizabeth Bridge and tossing them into the water over the weekend.

During one video, a man filming screams out, “Good guy,” in support of the man’s actions. As the flag falls off the bridge, he yells: “Bye bye!”

The incident comes approximately two months after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán lost power following national elections on April 12. Liberal Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony had ordered the LGBT flags displayed on the famous bridge over the weekend.

The appearance of the flags on landmarks has been seen as a symbol of the fall of Hungary’s conservative government, which had in the past banned the Pride Parade and taken a number of actions against LGBT ideology and education in Hungarian society and the education system.

The video of the man tossing the flags into the river has produced sharply different reactions on Reddit and other social media platforms. Conservatives are labeling him a “hero” while those on the left say he is a “bigot.”

Budapest’s mayor, Karácsony, said the police are now investigating the incident.
