The tour begins on September 8th in the southeastern Hungarian town of Békéscsaba and will last until April 22nd, 2019. The tour includes four-night season tickets in ten Hungarian cities, most of which otherwise don’t have regular opera performances.
The neo-renaissance Opera House – one of the Hungarian capital’s most beautiful architectural monuments – was built by famous Hungarian architect Miklós Ybl between 1975-1884 and the inaugural concert was directed by Ferenc Erkel, director and composer of the Hungarian anthem.
The 2016 reconstruction tender was launched with an initial budget of HUF 9.2 billion (US$32.5 million) and currently stands at HUF 28 billion (US$98.8 million). It is expected to be completed in May 2019.
