Since 2010, the amount received by pensioners has doubled and the 13th-month benefit previously taken away by the left has been returned, a government advisor has announced.

“For the civilian government led by Viktor Orbán, the situation of pensioners is a matter of honor,” said MP Zsolt Nyitrai, chief advisor to Prime Minister Orbán, in a video message posted on his Facebook page

Nyitrai highlighted that “we have formed an alliance with pensioners, we always stand up for their interests and protect their benefits,” noting that not only did the left take away the 13th-month pension in the past, but Brussels wants to take it away again. However, he underlined, Fidesz has made this extra yearly payment permanent.

The politician added that pensions will increase by another 3.2 percent in January, and seniors will also receive their 13th month’s pay this year.

“This year, the overhead protection will remain in place, and the government’s “Gondosóra” program will continue. The Hungarian government will spend a total of HUF 7.2 trillion (€17 billion) on pensions and pension-like benefits in 2025. Our elderly compatriots can count on us in 2025 as well. Hungary can do it,” he said.

The “Gondosóra,” as described on its site, is a free device for individuals over the age of 65 (Hungarian citizens with a registered domestic address), which, at the press of a button, will emit a signal to a 24-hour dispatch service; it can be used for both emergencies or other concerns.
