A 25-year-old autistic Swedish woman, who is reportedly severely disabled and requires a wheelchair, was allegedly raped by a 45-year-old Iraqi man who was transporting her via ambulance in the Swedish city of Kristianstad.

The incident happened on June 6, 2026, Sweden’s National Day, but is only being reported on now.

The woman was utilizing a “Färdtjänst,” a specialized transport service for disabled people, which she routinely uses since regular public transport is often difficult for individuals with severe disabilities.

The Iraqi was reportedly driving the woman home when at some point, he allegedly raped her, according to news outlet Kristianstadbladet.

Few details have been released about the incident but police have detained the man.

Swedish news outlet Samnytt was the only one to report that the man is Iraqi. The outlet indicates that the man cannot be deported due to his residency status.

The transport service often features drivers on contract, and there have been past cases of misconduct by Färdtjänst drivers in the region, though this is the latest reported incident.

The investigation is ongoing. His vehicle has been seized and he remains in detention.
