Three Moroccan brothers have been arrested in Mallorca after allegedly attacking and attempting to rape a young woman who rejected them in a nightlife district near Playa de Palma.
According to Diario de Mallorca, the suspects, aged 18, 23 and 26, approached the woman at around 5 a.m. on June 30 and attempted to flirt with her.
When she told them to “fuck off,” police say the three men became violent, grabbed her by the neck, and dragged her from the street onto the sand.
The brothers allegedly groped her and tried to pull down her pants, intending to rape her.
The woman screamed and fought back as the suspects kicked her and punched her in the face. Her resistance prevented her from being raped, and the three men eventually fled.
The victim, who is in her twenties, later reported the attack to the National Police but initially said only that she had been assaulted and that her mobile phone had been stolen.
She did not initially disclose the sexual assault because she felt “ashamed,” according to her later statement.
Around two weeks after the attack, the woman recognized the three suspects on the street, close to where the alleged assault occurred.
She was accompanied by a relative, who managed to detain two of the men while police were called. Officers searched the surrounding area and located the third brother shortly afterward.
Following the arrests, the woman submitted an additional statement detailing the alleged sexual touching and the attempt to remove her pants.
Police confirmed that all three suspects are Moroccan nationals with legal residency in Spain.
Mallorca al Día reported that, with an attempted rape and an assault charge, the suspects could face custodial sentences of between 4 and 10 years, with the group attack and brutality used being significant aggravating factors should they be charged.
