The commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi was the first representative of the European Commission (EC) to come to Poland after the epidemic. He was invited by Polish FM Jacek Czaputowicz.
The commissioner explained that his talks in Warsaw on Thursday with Polish authorities concerned the EU’s integration with the Western Balkans and Eastern Europe, as well as the EU’s support in fighting the pandemic.
Varhelyi emphasized that Poland is a key state not only in terms of relations with Eastern Europe, but also the EU’s expansion policy. This is why it is important for the EC to maintain Polish support for the policy of enlargement.
Apart from discussing EU enlargement policy, the commissioner discussed in Warsaw EU financial support for the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership countries due to the pandemic.
The commissioner stressed that the EU has already done much to assist those countries.
