Budapest police found and arrested a Nigerian student who allegedly raped a woman in the capital’s central 7th district on Saturday, Hungarian police announced on their website on Monday.
The incident was reported by the woman at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
A 22-year-old-man, identified only as Joseph E.I. (Hungarian law only allows the publication of first names and initials of suspects), responded to an online advertisement of a woman who offered sexual services.
The woman asked for payment before the act and when the man refused, asked him to leave. The man instead proceeded to strangle and rape her.
Based on surveillance camera footage, a police patrol apprehended the suspect within four hours and is preparing a motion to formally charge him with the crime.
Police also released video of the suspect’s apprehension in Budapest, which already has nearly 90,000 views at the time of publication.
Another high-profile rape involving a foreign national recently made headlines this year when a Somali refugee raped a Hungarian woman in a park.
The Somali man arrived in Hungary in 2015 and was granted protective asylum. He later traveled on to Sweden but the country eventually deported him to Hungary, which was his original pointy of entry into the European Union.
