Five masked robbers speaking Ukrainian broke into a Polish entrepreneur’s house, tied him up, and poured boiling water on the man to extract a code to his safe in the Polish city of Łańcut.
The men are believed to have entered through a broken window on the first floor. The men, who were dressed in all black with balaclavas and gloves, spoke Ukrainian, said the victim in the case. First, they tied up his 12-year-old son who was sleeping downstairs and then also tied up the father, Witold B.
The businessman said in interview that he keeps a safe in his home where he keeps money from contractors. He told Onet News that his home is in “a housing estate of single-family homes, a quiet area, away from the city center.”
The robbery, which took place on the night of Dec. 16, was especially brutal.
The burglars held a knife to the man’s throat and demanded access to the safe. They then poured boiling water and a chemical agent on him. Due to the stress of the situation, he could not remember the code, but it finally came to him, and he then provided them access.
“I was afraid that they would kill me then,” he told news outlet Wyborcza.
The attackers then emptied the safe and fled. The 12-year-old managed to free himself and ran to a neighbor for help who called the police. The thieves made off with approximately €9,500 and a watch. They did not attempt to rob the high-end vehicles in front of the house.
The head of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Łańcut, Aleksandra Przybyło, told Wyborcza that the police have launched an investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office. For now, they are reviewing surveillance and pursuing other leads.
