Eighty foreigners tried to cross the border from Belarus into Poland on Tuesday and 73 on Wednesday, stated the Polish Border Guard. Additionally, eight human traffickers involved in transporting migrants were detained while illegally crossing the border.
The Polish Border Guard reported on Twitter that individuals who tried to cross the border included citizens from Sudan, Iran, Cameroon, and Congo along with other nationalities. Other individuals arrived at the border barrier and then withdrew back to Belarus.
In October, border guards recorded over 1,800 total attempts to cross the Polish border, including individuals who approached the steel barrier but never crossed. This number has increased compared to previous months.
Since construction of the steel barrier on the Belarusian border was completed, efforts are now underway to launch a so-called electronic barrier. A monitoring center in the city of Białystok has been completed, where electronic and video signals will be processed. The installation of cameras and motion detectors is also underway.
The first kilometers of the electronic barrier will most likely be ready in October, and a full launch of the system is planned by the end of the year.
