Poland is now generating over one gigawatt of power through solar energy, a major milestone for the country, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA)
The Renewables 2019 report from the IEA says that Poland’s rapid growth in its use of clean energy is expected to continue into the future.
Globally, the power of devices creating electric energy from renewable resources will increase by 50 percent in the next five years.
The Renewables 2019 report, published at the end of October 2019, notes that after a small slump in 2018, the power produced from renewable resources such as solar power has increased globally in 2019 by 12 percent.
The IEA forecasts that in the next five years, the power of those devices will increase by close to 50 percent, rising from 2,501 gigawatts in 2018 to 3,721 gigawatts by 2024.
Poland passed the one-gigawatt threshold of photovoltaic installations in October 2019. This energy is produced from all solar devices, including those installed in homes and for commerical use. The Polish power growth rate is reaching 150 percent annually.
The IEA estimates that by 2024, the power generated from large photovoltaic devices in Poland will increase to 3 gigawatts.
According to IEA, the price of constructing solar “power plants” has decreased between 2010 and 2018 by about 60 to 80 percent, which applies to both solar energy plants installed in homes and large commercial projects.
The reduction of investment spending, including government subsidies, has also impacted the decrease in prices of electric energy produced through photovoltaic sources.
The IEA pointed out that this energy is now becoming competitive in terms of price even without financing from government budgets in all countries across the world, which were focusing on solar power to reduce greenhouse gas and pollution particles.
IEA experts claim that price drops for solar panels and the costs of building solar plants that collect energywill continue along with , with estimates showing a drop of another 15 to 35 percent by 2024.
