The writer has demanded additional profits on top of what he had negotiated and signed with the company years ago. There are unconfirmed reports on the internet that in 2002 Sapkowski was paid by CD Projekt only PLN 35,000.
The plenipotentiaries of the author are basing these demands on article 44 of the copyright law which can be enacted if the profits of the author of a piece are too small when compared to the overall profits gained from exploiting their piece.
The call for payment sent to CD Project Red underlines, that Sapkowski’s compensation should be equal to 6 percent of the profits, especially those made from the game “The Witcher 3”. Considering the profits Sapkowski has already made, this would amount to PLN 60 million.

CD Projekt Red has deemed these demands without merit. “The company has deemed these demands baseless in terms of both the amount and the basis for them. The company had legally purchased the rights from Andrzej Sapkowski, mainly for use to create the games and had regulated the negotiated payments,” a statement reads.
The company is adamant however, that they wish to maintain good relations with the author whose work has been an inspiration for the development team. They seek an amicable solution to the situation, but it “should respect the previously agreed upon intentions and contracts.”
