Israel’s success is behind widespread attacks against the country, according to the head of the influential Hungarian Center for Fundamental Rights.
“The fact that Israel is a prosperous, successful state incites a fit of rage in many people,” said Miklós Szánthó, director general of the Center for Fundamental Rights, during a speech at the center’s conference in Budapest.
Commemorating the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel, Szánthó said Hungary is the safest place for the Jewish community, especially in a world where cancel culture is allowing for a reemergence of anti-Semitism, albeit in a disguised form.

The director also mentioned Donald Trump, calling him a strong leader and saying that had he been president of the U.S., the massacre on Oct. 7 would not have occurred.
Criticizing the Brussels elite who do not want to understand Hungary, he said two forces are fighting for the “soul of civilization” today, with the battle being between life and destruction.
Hungary “understands the crucial importance of our deep-rooted faith and ethics” and “sees the nation as the legacy of many centuries of hard work.” As “custodians of our children’s future,” the director called Hungary’s approach as realistic and following common sense.
Szánthó also said that Israel is fighting for the same values that Hungary represents, noting that “Israel and Hungary are looking for the same thing: sovereignty and a just peace. But only the stronger can create peace.”
