In response to soaring crime on German public transport, due in large part to mass migration, the Berlin Greens want to make “women-only” train cars available. The demand was put forward by Berlin Green Party MP Antje Kapek, who pointed to the “terrible attacks on women,” noting that many of the attacks occur “even when it is very crowded.”
She says that women should be able to travel “without being attacked or assaulted,” and the biggest danger is in the evenings and at night.
As many German papers mention, a rape directly on a train in Berlin has jumpstarted the proposal. However, what no paper mentions is who was actually behind this rape. It was in fact a dangerous Iranian migrant, 33-year-old Moshen K., who raped an 63-year-old woman reportedly belonging to Berlin high society.
Politicians react
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) transport expert, Rolf Wiedenhaupt, called the idea “absurd.”
“The demand for women-only cars on the subway is absurd and misses the point. Safety is not achieved by separating categories of victims, but by taking consistent action against criminals and speeding up convictions by taking advantage of the severity of the sentence,” he wrote.
He also noted that the requirement that there should always be a person on duty in the extra compartments to supervise shows “how far out of touch with reality the Greens are.” He noted that “trains have been canceled for months due to a lack of drivers, and passengers have to wait forever and squeeze into full carriages.”
The question is where the extra staffing would come from when the train system is already overwhelmed.
The general secretary of the FDP in Berlin, Peter Langer, also trashed the idea, saying it was “a declaration of bankruptcy in the face of one’s own incompetence.” He added that there should be “no no-go areas” in Berlin. He backs a strategy of prevention and more security staff.
Iranian rapist is reason behind the calls for women-only train cars
The Iranian migrant Moshen K. has been in Germany since 2016 and worked in logistics support, which means he could be a truck driver, although it is unclear. On Feb. 9, 2024, he entered metro line 3 and saw a woman, 63, all alone playing on her smartphone.
He wanted to take a selfie with her, and when she refused, he tried to kiss her. She screamed that she was married. He then proceeded to forcibly rape her near the Krumme Lanke station.
She initially struggled about whether to go to the police, but then said she did it anyway because she wanted to “help the other women who cross this path.”
He was diagnosed with schizophrenia and put into a psychiatric ward. He will serve no prison time. The brazen rape has fueled calls for more protection for women on Berlin’s public transport.
While women have always faced a certain level of risk on European public transport, the migration crisis has turbocharged the threat. Some of the most absurd headlines out of Germany have to do with the country’s rail system and the daily terror inflicted on train personnel and passengers, largely due to mass immigration.
Everything from migrants masturbating on rail lines, resulting in regional traffic shutdowns, to German staff being terrorized to the point that they are not showing up for work, including due to physical assaults and sexual violence. There is now even a policy in place to not check train tickets for people who look to be foreign out of fear of assault.
Crime on public transport also continues to soar due to migrant violence.
The Berlin police recorded 391 sexual offenses on public transport last year; this is a slight decrease from last year’s 450, but when viewed over the long term, the trend shows that sexual offenses are rising rapidly.
Since 2013, when there were 108 such crimes reported, this figure has increased by 260 percent.
However, while Berlin does not record the foreign background of crime suspects anymore, at the federal level, it reveals just how commonplace migrant violence is on public transport. The issue is not just sexual violence, either. According to the Federal Police, in 2023, the proportion of “non-German” suspects in cases of serious bodily harm, robbery, murder and manslaughter is 55.5 percent on public transport. This is slightly less than in the previous year, when the proportion for these crimes was 57.6 percent. The figures come from the so-called police entry statistics (PES) of the Federal Police.
In some cases, Germans have lost their lives, including in knife attacks.
Polish media was also quick to mock the German proposal.
“The far-left, pro-immigration Green Party in Berlin has put forward a proposal that is characteristic of itself. It is not about removing groups of people who commit crimes from the country. The idea is to always have one subway car ‘just for women,” writes Do Rzeczy.
The paper states that “rapes and attacks on women by immigrants have become commonplace in many German cities,” like Berlin.
“This is a problem in a huge urban center like Berlin. For a long time, media and political censorship has not been able to hide what is happening from society, so even left-wing formations are trying to show that they are looking for some solution to improve security,” the paper added.
