“The world has been shaken by an extraordinary epidemic, but Hungary has broken the third wave of the pandemic, with a performance that many envy. The whole society took part in the defense, with the health workers working in a rather heroic struggle: this meant not only a huge physical but also a mental strain,” Minister of Human Capacities Miklós Kásler emphasized at a joint press conference in Budapest with Placido Domingo and András Csaba Dézsi, Mayor of Győr, the western Hungarian town which will host the concert.
Kásler – himself a doctor of oncology – said that the world-famous opera singer has long had a serious attraction to Hungarian music and Hungarian culture, coupled with his desire to give back to people who survived the Covid-19 epidemic, even in exceptional circumstances.
The head of the ministry also announced that thousands of Hungarian healthcare workers will be invited to Placido Domingo’s concert in Győr. He added that, together with his doctor-mayor colleague, András Csaba Dézsi, they support the concert to greet some of the many health workers who do such superhuman work.
After the Minister of Human Resources, the Mayor of Győr thanked Plácido Domingo for thinking of those who saved lives during the epidemic.
András Csaba Dézsi emphasized that as a practicing cardiologist, he saw the burden and the loss amidst the epidemic, but in his opinion it is not enough to cure the disease – one must also treat the patients’ souls, and one of the best ways to do this is through music.
