A Polish man wanted by authorities in several countries was found hiding in Miskolc, northeastern Hungary. One of Europe’s most wanted and dangerous criminals is now behind bars, police.hu reports.

According to the portal, Hungary’s Rapid Response and Special Police Services National Bureau of Investigation (KR NNI) received a signal from several foreign partner agencies, through Europol’s via the ENFAST channel, on Aug. 1 to capture a fugitive who was wanted by various authorities across Europe.

Two arrest warrants were issued for the 49-year-old man: one by the Slovenian police for sexual assault and one by Polish authorities because he had escaped after being sentenced to three years in prison for property crimes.

The criminal was also known to German and Austrian authorities. The last information about the man, who had been on the run for two years, was that he may have fled to Hungary from Slovakia, where he had been staying for a long time.

Thanks to KR NNI’s reconnaissance, they tracked down the man and sought to detain him as quickly as possible. Known as a dangerous and violent man, the team worked together with the law enforcement and criminal staff of the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Police Headquarters, as well as bounty hunters. Information received from the Slovenian and Slovak authorities also assisted in his capture, which took just a few days.

Arrested in the city center of Miskolc on Aug. 4, a decision will be made on his extradition to the Slovenian authorities at a later date.
