After a meeting with President of Finland Alexander Stubb, Polish President Karol Nawrocki had some glaring comments on Russia.

The Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland (KPRP) reported in a post on X that Nawrocki and Stubb discussed bilateral cooperation, NATO, and Nawrocki’s recent visit to Washington, among other topics.

“We are not only partners in the EU, in bilateral relations, but above all, we are allies,” Nawrocki said, adding that “both Poles and Finns are intimately familiar with the Russian spirit and Vladimir Putin.”

Nawrocki also praised Finland’s military readiness to defend itself, especially along its border with Russia.

“Both the president and I obviously don’t trust Vladimir Putin’s good intentions. We are convinced that Vladimir Putin is ready to attack more countries, which is why we are developing our armed forces and partnership,” he said.

During an interview with national Lithuanian TV, Nawrocki said Trump understood Poland’s role in Central Europe, as the Polish military is currently the largest in the region.

“The Poles and I, as the President of Poland, understand that we are responsible for the entire Central European region, including the Baltic States and Lithuania,” he said.

He emphasized that member states focus on implementing the decisions made at the NATO summit in The Hague as well. “We need to arm ourselves – not to go to war, but to avoid war,” Nawrocki said.

Regarding Ukraine’s membership, the Polish president does not believe it should be admitted while at war, as that would drag both Lithuania and Poland immediately into the war.

He also emphasized that Ukraine should be in the EU, stating that “there is no question that Ukraine should belong to Europe in a civilizational sense.” Nawrocki, however, added that it is too early for such a debate and also, he, in the office of president, does “not participate in such debates.”
