After a report in “Rzeczpospolita” that a house in Wyryki was damaged not by a Russian drone on Sept. 10 but by a Polish missile, Poland’s opposition has been up in arms, accusing the government of withholding information and misleading not only President Nawrocki, but all Poles. The opposition now says the incident not only reveals the government’s incompetence, but also threatens Poland’s security.
The Polish government, meanwhile, counters that if Russian drones had not flown into Poland, Polish missiles would not have been fired.
The missile was allegedly fired by a Polish F-16 while attempting to down a Russian drone. The incident lays bare the risks of war and has only increased tensions, as the need to defend Polish airspace against Russian drones resulted in damage to a Polish civilian’s home.
Polish Minister-Coordinator of Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak confirmed the report to TVN24. “Everything indicates that it was a missile fired by our plane in defense of Poland, in defense of the homeland, in defense of our citizens. And the military declared that it would cover these losses.
“The investigation is ongoing, and it’s not like everything is clear after the first hour or three hours. These drone parts are currently being examined very carefully, very thoroughly by our specialists – by the services, by experts,” he added.
According to former Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak, current Prime Minister Donald Tusk, along with ministers Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Radosław Sikorski, are “burying their heads in the sand and trying to shift the blame for – either intentionally or through their own incompetence – giving Putin an argument to dispute his responsibility for the drone attack,” Do Rzeczy reports.
Confederation politicians, in turn, are demanding Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s resignation.
“The worst prime minister in Polish history. He concealed the truth about the attack on the house in Wyrywki from Poles and the world. He ridiculed us on the international stage and gave fuel to Russian propaganda. And in the end, he started hiding behind soldiers of the Polish Army. Resign!” wrote Tomasz Grabarczyk on X.
Najgorszy premier w historii Polski. Zataił przed Polakami i opinią światową prawdę o uderzeniu w dom w Wyrywkach. Ośmieszył nas na arenie międzynarodowej i dał paliwo ruskiej propagandzie. A na końcu zaczął się zasłaniać żołnierzami Wojska Polskiego.

Magyar Nemzet is reporting that President Nawrocki is also furious, as Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki had used a photo of the damaged property to accuse the Russians at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Sept. 12.
Nawrocki’s office issued a statement yesterday protesting that the president had not been fully informed about the incident and accusing the government of withholding information.
“We cannot tolerate information being withheld. In times of disinformation and hybrid warfare, the information provided to Poles must be solid and verified,” the statement reads.
Poland’s defense minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, has firmly rejected accusations that the government concealed information from the president and the public, saying everything was released after its authenticity was verified.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on X: “All responsibility for the damage to the house in Wyrykach falls on the authors of the drone provocation, that is, Russia. The appropriate services will inform the public, the government, and the president about all the circumstances of the incident after the proceedings are completed.”
He ended his post by writing, “Hands off Polish soldiers!”
The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs also posted that FM Radoslaw Sikorski told Polsat News, If someone breaks into a house, and the other person, defending themselves, breaks a vase – whose fault is it?”
Tusk also posted a message on X indicating Poles are behind their military forces despite the mishap, saying “94 percent of Poles declared their trust in the military today.”
“The military and state authorities formed a unity in the moment of trial. Poland gave the entire world an example of courage, responsibility, and national solidarity in the face of threat. Let us not allow anyone to waste this. No one!” his post read.
