An explosion occurred in the center of the Norwegian capital, Oslo, on Tuesday, and one person was detained, police said, adding that an object that appeared to be a hand grenade was defused at the scene. The gang war that is also raging in Sweden appears to have reached Norway.

“There were no reports of injuries after the incident that occurred in the evening near Oslo Met, a higher education institution in the Norwegian capital,” the police said.

Speaking to the media at the scene, Brian Skotnes, the head of operations for the Oslo police, confirmed the explosion, adding that an unexploded object, which appeared to be a hand grenade, was also found and detonated.

No further details were released about the circumstances of the incident or the identity of the arrested man.

According to the state-run radio and television company NRK, the suspect is a minor.

Brian Skotnes said they are looking for additional suspects.

Photos taken by witnesses and published in the press showed a grenade lying on a pedestrian crossing, a structure likely destroyed in a controlled manner by the police.

Authorities set up a security cordon around the scene and asked residents to stay home while they inspect for any remaining explosive devices.

Norway has a low crime rate, but in recent months the gang war raging in neighboring Sweden has reached the country.
